Simple Ways to Refresh Your Home
Whether you need a change or are preparing your home for selling, there is no better form of self-satisfaction than enhancing your haven with something you love. Our homes are full of things we need functionally to survive and can be distracting places instead of tranquil, relaxing places we love. However, we often don’t treat ourselves to something we love to give our home a sweet enhancement.
During this season of cozy and warmth, my wish for you is that you love your home.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

You don’t need to go racing to Homesense and break the bank on many beautiful things (although that isn’t always a bad thing!).
But if you are carefully and diligently saving for a new home and would prefer to invest dollars for home decor into your future space, these five tips will help you and potential buyers feel the warmth of your current home. Home is where the heart is, and it is simple touches that expand and nourish our experiences there. So these are my best tips for an inexpensive, quick and sensual refresh in your house.
Remember the Sense of Smell
Smell is one of the most important senses. Good smells evoke happy memories. Similarly, bad smells can evoke negative impressions or memories. Whether you are showing your home or simply enjoying your own home, I always say the value of scents is monumental. We can easily nourish our senses with little things that add comfort and coziness, whether you show your property or live in it. Find your favourite scents and include them in an air freshener, diffuser, soaps or cleaning products. For me, it is always lavender that draws me in and sweetens my day. ⠀⠀⠀⠀
Add Nature and Florals⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I am a girl who loves fresh cut flowers. Flowers are the perfect house accessory, with immediate gratification! But any type of florals or plant is a game-changer to our mood. And as the cooler air hits and the days become shorter, we are starting to spend more time indoors. So I don't know about you, but I have to get very intentional to fill my home with things that will help me muddle through the upcoming drab days. Flowers are an excellent and easy way to enhance your enjoyment, but if you are selling, they will evoke a positive memory for all who check it out! Buyers want to feel they are at home and flowers look beautiful and can flagrantly give off memories and experiences we cherish, such as nature or loving moments. ⠀⠀
Let there be light
Natural light is a gift, and at times of the year when we have less of it, I do whatever I can to position my furniture to expand light. I clean the light fixtures and replace bulbs, and whenever possible, find ways to remove or pull back window coverings to bring in as much light as possible. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Optimize your Curb Appeal
Invest in front door first impression beauty. A new mat or wreath, seasonal planters and cleaning up of the yard of the winter debris (sticks, leaves and weeds) will give it a great feel. You should love the feeling of arriving at your doorstep and try to see it as an arrival at a vacation destination where you can savour and enjoy the relaxation you deserve.
The next time you walk into a beautiful hotel or resort, or even Homesense, be intentional about the experience you love and think about how you can create it within your own. A little refresh can be a significant boost to our own self-care and happiness. ⠀
Purposefully and intentionally savour the things, spaces and moments that nourish your soul, and you enjoy. Savour it and be attentive to it. These are the critical elements that make a house your home sweet home.
