Goal Setting about the Biggest Investment in your Life
“Don’t waste the pandemic,” I have heard people say over the last year.
For a global crisis that has affected all of us, we look in the rearview mirror, wondering what we will say about our own experience.
What were the lessons and learning gained?
What new habits did we adopt?
How did isolation affect our relationships?
What do we truly value about our lives and our lifestyles?
Did we, at the bare minimum, clean out some closets in the process?
Setting goals is not a new concept. But goal setting is often frustrating and inhibited by fear. It has taken brave souls and acts of courage to step out and switch things up, doing the hard work to create the life we want and achieve our dreams.
Goal setting about the most significant investment of your life is natural to want to do, and you are not alone. The proof is all around us:
The seller’s market is unprecedented and continues to escalate.
The home renovation world is exploding with accelerated pricing and extended timelines for contractors and materials.
If you keep getting stuck on dreaming but not acting on your goals regarding the most significant investment of your life, I recommend these tips to scheme it all out strategically:
Manifest It Within - I believe that if a song, affirmation or mediation is moving you and leading you to the dream of loving your home, you can create a core belief that you and your family are deserving of it. For example, I used a vision board with a rural home in a magazine centred on it and looked at it every day for several months while waiting for my dream home to show up.
Write it Down - Influencers and Self-Help gurus advocate to do this all the time to get the life you want. So why not do this exercise with your home vision? Doing a massive brain dump on what you want to change or add in your home, what bothers you now, and all the “I wish we had” ideas serve as affirmations and keeps your dreams visually real.
Plan it Out - Plans don’t always go as you hope, but if you would like to have your house on the market by mid-summer, highlight it on your calendar and then start backing up the tasks needed to get it ready to make it happen.
Be Prepared - Taking your vision and planning it out leaves you with many tasks that must be done to get you to a moving day. Starting with pre-approval for financing, get your real estate affairs in order. It is never too early to begin the process of staging, purging and packing. The more prepared you are, the smoother and more enjoyable the transition will be when it is finally here.
Get Professional Guidance - You have your goals, and when you want them to happen, so find a realtor to work with you to achieve it all! Make sure you choose someone you trust who will provide a clear strategy and expert knowledge of the market, along with genuine care for your best interests and dreams.
Goal setting is not just for New Years’ or a pandemic. Setting and achieving goals about your house investment is hard work but brings great rewards! If you are ready to set goals for the most significant investment in your life, I would love to help you get started.
